Bayer Leverkusen Back In The Champions League

Bayer Leverkusen Back in the Champions League

From 15th to First

Bayer 04 Leverkusen had a shocking season in which it went from being in the final of the UEFA Champions League the previous season to finish 15th in the Bundesliga. The club bounced back the following season, finishing in the top three and qualifying for the Champions League once again.

A Season of Disappointment

Leverkusen's 15th-place finish in the 2019-20 season was their worst in over a decade. The club struggled throughout the season, winning just nine of their 34 matches. They were also eliminated from the Champions League in the group stage and the DFB-Pokal in the second round.

A Season of Redemption

Leverkusen bounced back from their disappointing season in 2020-21. The club finished third in the Bundesliga, qualifying for the Champions League. They also reached the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal. Leverkusen's success in 2020-21 was due in large part to the performances of their young players. Florian Wirtz, Moussa Diaby, and Patrik Schick all had breakout seasons. Wirtz, in particular, was one of the most exciting young players in Europe. He scored eight goals and provided 16 assists in all competitions.

Leverkusen will be hoping to build on their success in 2020-21. The club has a talented squad and a good manager in Gerardo Seoane. They will be one of the favorites to win the Bundesliga title and make a deep run in the Champions League.
